Construction Gloves for Safety-Conscious Laing O'Rourke
With over 3000 glove wearing employees, Laing O’Rourke Middle East has a significant responsibility to ensure the safety of their workforce, therefore a range of high quality construction gloves from the Globus portfolio were chosen for their construction engineering and manufacturing site teams.
Laing O’Rourke Middle East is based in Dubai and are involved in high profile, often iconic construction projects. A family-owned business, the company is committed to being a trusted employer throughout the world, with strong corporate social responsibility values. They care for and protect their employees’ wellbeing, ensuring a motivated attitude throughout their construction sites.
Globus worked with Laing O’Rourke to evaluate their hand protection needs, which included tasks such as carpentry, brickwork and scaffolding. The evaluation trials were carried out across five sites, with glove wearing employees involved in the decision making process from start to finish.
When conducting glove trials, we can’t emphasise enough just how valuable it is to get employees involved from the outset. In our experience they then go on to value and look after the gloves significantly more. This really benefits the company, improves employee morale and in turn, safety on site improves too.
A range of SKYTEC and SHOWA gloves from the Globus portfolio were selected to suit workers needing construction gloves on Laing O’Rourke Middle East sites. Laing O’Rourke is now able to supply a range of gloves that provide quality, comfort and performance to all workers, no matter which task they are doing. In addition to providing hand protection, Globus supported Laing O’Rourke with training packages, ongoing site support and worker education material, including translated versions.
Now, due to workforce involvement and tailored support;
- Gloves are worn when required
- The correct glove is worn for the correct task
- There is 50% more use of a glove before they are thrown away
Most importantly, within just three months the number of hand injuries had been reduced. For Laing O’Rourke this improvement in hand protection is paramount to their success in the construction industry, both from a health and safety point of view and their public perception.
